West Highland Project and Partnerships Assistant

We are looking for a West Highland Project and Partnerships Assistant to join Samaritans on a 12 month fixed term contract. This role will provide event, promotion, engagement, and communications support to a major new Samaritans project, focused on lone and isolated workers in the west Highlands and Skye, funded by the Scottish Government.  

  • Full time (flexible 35 hours per week)
  • 12 month fixed term contract (secondments considered)
  • £24,000-£27,000 per annum plus benefits
  • Home-based: located in/near the West Highlands mainland or Skye
  • A driving licence and car are essential 
  • Willing to travel throughout the West Highlands (coastal / near-coastal communities from Oban to the northern mainland and Skye)

The Project

The project will work with the local community and agencies, and Samaritans staff and volunteers, to: Increase awareness of Samaritans’ suicide prevention offer and wider supports, encouraging help seeking behaviour; develop bespoke local campaigns; create and offer new learning resources; commission new research and promote new volunteering opportunities.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Project Support – provide daily support to the Partnership Manager, Project Oversight Group and the Workstream Leads Group, including booking meetings, preparing papers and taking minutes
  • Partnership and Promotion – support the identification, organisation and delivery of promotional events and activities within the local area – including booking venues, travel, accommodation and resources as appropriate
  • Research and data – support the gathering of local data, including supporting project evaluation and reporting and supporting commissioned researchers as appropriate
  • Volunteer Engagement - Support internal communications with Samaritans volunteers about the project

Skills and Experience

  • Lived experience of Highland and Islands communities
  • Previous experience in a Marketing, Media, PR or Events
  • Excellent organisation skills, ideally in supporting projects
  • Strong core administrative skills, including budgets and minute taking
  • Excellent IT skills, encompassing both Office 365 applications and online tools
