Learning and Development Business Partner

We have a new opportunity for a Learning and Development Business Partner to join Samaritans. Our Learning and Development Business Partner (L&D BP) will work as part of our highly professional, engaged and positive L&D team and will lead on the design of new and bespoke learning packages for our external partners.

This brand-new role will work in partnership with our Income team to help generate over £1 million in income to support our services for some of the most vulnerable people across the UK and Republic of Ireland. Our mission is to reduce the number of people who die by suicide and we pride ourselves in taking a leading role in influencing suicide prevention policy and practice.

  • £35,500-£44,500 per annum plus benefits 
  • Full time, 35 hours per week
  • We are open to flexible working
  • Home-based and then 2-3 days per week in Ewell, Surrey when our office reopens in 2021

The Role

The Samaritans external training team deliver training to organisations through courses such as: ‘Conversations with Vulnerable People’, ‘Resilience and Wellbeing’ and ‘Managing Suicidal Conversations’.  In 2019 we trained 7,262 external delegates through 400 courses and to date Samaritans has trained over 700 companies.  The L&D BP role will work to ensure our existing training materials are the best they can be, creating new and bespoke learning to meet our clients’ needs and budget.  Our L&D BP will lead on commercial L&D projects including developing learning toolkits, eLearning and face-to-face/virtual training packages which will be delivered by our team of professional trainers.

This role will work to identify learning needs with our external partners, including commercial, not-for-profit and public sector organisations, develop proposals and then create bespoke learning products that suit their requirements.  Depending on the nature and scale of projects, this might be working in conjunction with external design agencies, or managing consultants to develop materials.

Key Responsibilities

  • Consult with external stakeholders to determine bespoke needs
  • Lead the design and delivery of external learning materials:
  • Conduct learning needs analysis and internal research/consultation to inform the development of new learning & development resources and initiatives
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to create, design, test and deliver L&D solutions using a blend of approaches as appropriate, including guidance materials, online learning, self-directed learning, reflective journals, webinars, podcasts, videos, live online learning, cascade, face to face and on the job learning as appropriate
  • Review workplace training research and training material as well as input from external markets and suggest and develop new materials which can be sold to external organisations
  • Help build a learning culture at Samaritans

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

This role would be ideal for an experienced L&D Consultant, with B2B experience and a commercial understanding of corporate clients and how to develop material for them. This role would also suit someone with previous experience within a training consultancy, developing training for external clients.

  • Ability to conduct all stages of implementing an effective learning product including:
    • Learning needs analysis
    • Design including research, focus groups and story boarding
    • Procurement and liaison with external providers where required
    • Creation of learning product incorporating needs of learners often using a blended approach
    • Piloting and evaluation of learning impact (pre- and post- event)
    • Launch
  • Experience of consulting with external organisations
  • Experience of building relationships with and producing high quality training materials for external organisations
  • An understanding of modern L&D theories, approaches and methods
  • Experience of prioritising own workload and working to deadlines with speed and accuracy
  • Excellent IT and Project Management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to exercise tact and diplomacy to achieve goals
  • Ability to monitor and track expenditure and budgets
  • Experience of working with a virtual learning environment and/or LMS (desirable)
  • Experience of designing eLearning in a package such as Articulate 360 or Evolve (desirable)
  • Experience of procuring and managing third-party suppliers (desirable)
