Senior Designer

We are looking for a talented Senior Designer with creative flair to join our busy in-house multi-disciplined Creative Services team. You can help us work towards our vision by bringing our brand to life so more people are encouraged to reach out to us, or inspired to support us.

    Working closely with communications colleagues, your role will be to bring design briefs to life by producing innovative, on-brand and high-quality design solutions across a wide range of formats in print and digital, raising awareness of Samaritans’ services, its aims and objectives.

    You‘ll need to be self-starter with exceptional project management and organisational skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while working on a number of concurrently running projects.

    You’ll have a strong portfolio and be able to demonstrate your experience of managing projects from beginning to end. You’ll possess excellent attention to detail when designing and working with the application of the visual identity.

    You’ll be a strong team player, calm under pressure and able to clearly communicate aims and creative approach with confidence at all levels.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Develop design concepts for print and digital materials from first principals to finished artwork. Apply the chosen design route across all required project materials e.g. projects that may require a number of inter-related items. Supply of final print or digital ready artwork and advise on any specifications.
    • To attend and contribute to client briefings where appropriate, and to liaise with the marketing team and client, throughout the design/production stages. Working in consultation with the marketing teams to ensure that written content is in keeping with their requirements.
    • To ensure high-level of creativity and consistency of brand across all materials. To be a brand ambassador for all staff and volunteers by being a point of knowledge and reference for queries on Samaritans’ visual identity.

    Key Skills and Experience: 

    • Highly creative and innovative thinker who can contribute ideas and sees the bigger picture. Is able to interpret visual identity guidelines and apply them creatively and consistently across a range of material and formats in print and digital.
    • Excellent working knowledge and high level of skill in using Adobe Creative Suite.
    • Strong project management skills, able to manage own workload, including planning, prioritising and meeting deadlines, sometimes at very short notice, for a number of activities/projects running concurrently. Able to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
    • Proven and significant experience in a publication’s environment. Experience of and excellent technical reproduction and printing processes knowledge.
    • Reliable and can work without constant supervision. Possesses the ability to remain calm
      under pressure.
    • Demonstrable team working skills and able to clearly and concisely communicate aims and creative approach.
    • Flexible approach and able to adapt professionally to changing briefs and deadlines. Proactive and able to prioritise own work.
    • An active listener and able to understand and interpret the client’s needs and offer a high level of service.
    • An enthusiastic team player with a positive influence.
