Project Manager – Strategy Development & Planning

We are looking for a Project Manager to manage the development, monitoring and reporting of strategic projects and programmes of work at Samaritans. This role is a 12 month fixed term contract. As Project Manager, you will develop a project framework for our strategy development work and coordinate project management activity across the workstreams of our covid recovery work (the ‘Business Continuity Group’).

  • £40,000-£45,000 per annum plus benefits
  • Full time (35 hours per week)
  • Reports into Head of Planning & Performance
  • A mix of home working and in the office in Ewell, Surrey a few days per week

Key Responsibilities

1.       Project management of our strategy development programme

  • Create and deliver project work plans to champion our strategy development programme, revising as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements.
  • Assist the Director of Strategy to identify resources and to assign responsibilities in support of the programme of work.
  • Support the Director of Strategy to develop, finalise and communicate key presentations and communications for the project, in collaboration with other teams such as Internal Communications as appropriate.
  • Manage day-to-day operational aspects of the project(s), including providing standard and ad hoc reports and data, answering stakeholder queries on measures, outcomes and deadlines.

2.       Project management of our Business Continuity / Post-covid recovery project

  • Develop and manage a project management approach to our business continuity work, forming plans, templates and reporting so that we can clearly communicate and monitor our progress in this area.
  • Form and manage stakeholder management map and approach so that we are involving and communicating effectively.
  • Work closely with the AD Internal Communications who is leading the Service Delivery Group, working with our Operations department and other stakeholders to plan our post-covid approach for Samaritans branches and ‘external’ or outreach activities.
  • Lead the development of project updates and communications, including presentation material for executive updates.

3.       Assistance in wider performance and planning activities

  • Compile quarterly performance reports. 
  • Manage to the wider business planning process and compiling and interpreting data to assist progress reporting and ongoing prioritisation.

The Person

  • Previous experience of managing multi-workstream projects of work from inception to implementation.
  • Experience of managing the needs of a wide range of stakeholder groups.
  • Strong knowledge and experience of applying project tools and methodologies to assist effective management and reporting.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, including report writing and drafting presentations.
  • Confident communicator with strong relationship management and influencing skills.
  • Confident to facilitate project discussions to ensure project workstream members are involved and on track to deliver against project milestones.
